Learn Stretching from the Master

Bill “superfoot” Wallace retired in the early eighties as undefeated world champion in the middle weight of full contact kickboxing: his combat strategy was always based on fantastic kicking techniques that often caught by surprise his opponents and knock them out. Wallace was not just good and superfast in kicking but he could shoot double of triple kicks with a single leg, using these techniques in the same way most boxers faint punching techniques.

Apart from his obviously amazing experience as a martial artist Wallace has a master in Sport Science that further qualifies him to advise people about stretching for flexibility.   He was a true precursor of innovative stretching excercises and applications like the one decribed in the video below.

It shows here how to improve flexibility for side kicks (and it equally applies to round and hook ones): good news is that we at CARISMA regularly do a very similar (simplified) version during our classes, so it’s good to learn the extra movements we can add.

Rain? No problem!

So far we have been lucky this summer: as usual all Sundays of July and August we (try to) train outdoor.  Historically we managed to get about 5-6 out of 8-9 Sundays in any given year.  Summer 2010 has been good and we managed to get all Sundays outdoor this year.

Yesterday lesson was no different if not that at about 6 o’clock it started raining.  It was obviously too late traying relocating the lesson and, at the same time, the 9 CARISMA members at the lesson seemed so focussed on their training that they carried on kicking each other; luckily within less that 10 few minutes it stopped.  See them in this clip as they are training while rain is pooring down:

Toward the end of the lesson the sun came out so the lesson completed with and nice and relaxing conditioning training :-) of which you can see a simple example from Heley and Aaron:

CARISMA at The Martial Arts Show 2010 – video

CARISMA was invited to take part in two demonstrations of Kickboxing and Multicombat at the The Martial Arts Show that was held at the NEC in Birmingham on 22 and 23 May 2010.

TMAS, one of the most important exhibitions of martial arts in Europe, was a great celebration of all martial arts with many workshops, demonstration, competitions and exhibition stands. CARISMA had the opportunity to run two demonstrations at TMAS so a group of members was selected to prepare and perform the short demonstrations that could synthesize the whole essence of our training in just a few minutes and a handful of combinations.

Please have a look at the video:

A big thank you to Georgios Evengelinos, Aaron Lewis, Philip Richardson and Marcia Spoelder for their time and effort to help with the success of these demonstrations. A video of the event is being edited and it will be available soon.
